SOS/Lighthouse Meals -- Can you help?

Because of Covid, SOS/Lighthouse clients are not staying in churches, but are all being housed in a shelter. We are therefore looking to help provide meals for SOS/Lighthouse one week this Spring. This could happen during our regular SOS week April 25--May 2, 2021 OR we could choose another later week. We would need to prepare up to 75 individual meals each night and/or lunches for the next day. The agency is flexible and will be glad for whatever help we can give, but this project will take lots of helpers. So first we need a sense of how many people we can muster. Sign up by April 11 if you are interested in helping as a coordinator, cook, server, driver, or general helper. Once we get a sense of our volunteer numbers we can get back to them and confirm the details.

Sign up here if you can help as a cook, server, driver, or coordinator.

The purpose of South Oakland Shelter (SOS) is to help homeless individuals with their immediate needs while they actively work toward more permanent solutions to their homelessness. SOS is a rotating emergency shelter that resides in area host churches. Each church takes a one week turn in the rotation.

Every May our parish co-hosts SOS for one week. We provide housing at the church, three meals a day and transportation to and from our facility for a group of 25-30 men, women and children. It takes a huge commitment and tremendous coordination to make this short, intense week a success. It takes close to 100 people and over $3,000 for the church to help our guests. There are a multitude of ways to be involved in this tremendous effort. Please contact our Ministry Leader by calling the Church Office at (248) 651-6188.
